The Historical Geography Research Centre, togetherwith
the Department of Czech Language at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ostrava and the Institute of the Czech Language at the Czech Academy of Sciences, co-organized the 2nd Ostrava Onomastic Meeting EVENT on Place Names as a Mirror of Political Developments in Modern European Society.
In August 2016 the Historical Geography Research Centre co-organized the Summer School of Environmental History ESEH Summer School: The Undesirable: How Parasites, Diseases, and Pests Shape Our Environments. The event took place under the auspices of the European Society for Environmental History (ESEH). In addition to the HGRC, the Colegium Carolinum from Munich or the Institut für Geschichtswissenschaften und Europäische Ethnologie, located in Innsbruck, participated in the organization. The summer school, with experts from Europe and the United States, dealt with a historical perception and management of diseases and pests. Wider environmental, political and ethical implications of how human society is facing pests and diseases were being discussed.
